KUCHING (Oct 14): The inaugural Mental Health Day Run 2024 serves as a powerful reminder of the community’s collective commitment to tackling issues related to mental health, says Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol.
“By joining forces, we can cultivate an environment where mental health is acknowledged as a significant issue that must be addressed,” he said when met after launching the run at SJK Chung Hua in Bau, near here last Saturday.
Adding on, the parliamentarian called upon the public to participate in open dialogues about mental health.
He described this as being ‘essential’ in overcoming the stigmas that would often discourage individuals from seeking help.
“The success of the Mental Health Day Run 2024 serves as a powerful reminder of our community’s commitment to mental health awareness,” he said.
The event, said Mordi, had not only promoted healthy living, but the participants were also provided with free health screenings.
On top of that, he said the event served as an avenue to forge community involvement and a good platform for the local small vendors to boost their income.
Also taking part in the booth exhibitions at the event were the Organisation for Addiction Prevention, Treatment, and Rehabilitation (Oaptar), Malaysian Red Crescent Society, and National Health Protection Scheme (MySalam), as well as other government agencies and banks.
“I am optimistic about future initiatives that will continue to support the well-being of all residents in Mas Gading,” said the MP.
Mordi also donated RM20,000 to the Bau Care Welfare Association for the hosting of the event and also to support its future initiative.
“This contribution will help sustain the association’s annual programmes and activities, reaffirming our shared commitment to bolstering mental health resources and promoting healthier lifestyles within our community,” he said.
