TATAU (Sept 10): Azam Kasihnya Warisan was crowned ‘Raja Sungai’ (King of the River) at the Tatau Regatta 2024 on Sunday.

Kasihnya Warisan claimed both first and third place on the podium following a fierce battle with Kueh Brothers 1, who finished second.

Minister in the Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai presented the champions with a cash prize of RM20,000, and the second and third place winners RM5,000 and RM3,000, respectively.

According to Sikie, this year’s event received a record-breaking 97 entries from 19 teams, marking it as the largest edition the regatta thus far.

“The event’s success was largely due to excellent publicity, including live broadcasts of events during the Tatau Festival 2024 on the official Facebook page.

“Over the course of the two-day event, the regatta attracted approximately 30,000 visitors and recorded over 150,000 views on the Facebook broadcast,” he said in a statement.

The strategic location of Tatau along the Pan Borneo Highway also contributed to the event’s high turnout, he added.

“The serene and calm waters of Batang Anap, stretching approximately three kilometres, provided an ideal setting for water sports enthusiasts.

“The river’s gentle flow and absence of floating debris ensured smooth and safe races,” said the Kakus assemblyman.

Speaking on Tatau Festival 2024, Sikie said each night’s events featured various programmes and performances by local artistes, adding to the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.

Among those present on Sunday were Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi, Tatau district officer Jabang Juntan, Pemanca Gerosen Jubin, and a political secretary to the Premier, Pandang Semat.
