KUCHING (March 17): A 17-year-old boy was placed on a two-year good behaviour bond by the Magistrates’ Court here on Tuesday after he was found in possession of 0.87 grammes of cannabis.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan granted an undeposited bail of RM1,000 for the bond, with the boy’s mother acting as surety.
The boy pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine of up to RM20,000, a maximum jail term of five years, or both upon conviction.
He was found to be in possession of cannabis by the roadside of Jalan Semangat here at about 11.05am on Dec 2 last year.
Based on the facts of the case, during a police operation, officers noticed the accused behaving suspiciously by the roadside.
Police then conducted a physical search and found a small clear plastic packet containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
The packet was confiscated, and the boy was subsequently taken to the police station.
Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Illin appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
