KUCHING (Feb 2): Temporary road closures and traffic diversions will be enforced in Betong from Feb 5 to Feb 8 in conjunction with Sarawak Games (Suksar IV) for Betong-Sri Aman divisions.
Betong district police chief DSP Wan Mohamad Ali Wan Malek said the measures are necessary to ensure smooth running of the sporting events.
He said on Feb 5, Jalan Betong, Debak ‘P’ turn (KM 393.6) and Skrang ‘P’ turn (KM 346) will be closed from 7am to 10am and from 1pm to 4pm to facilitate highway race events.
“On Feb 6, the same roads and ‘P’ turns will also be temporarily closed from 8am to 11am, and from 2pm to 4.30pm for race events,” he added.
Wan Mohamad Ali said roads along Jalan Spine Medan near Medan Lake in Betong and Jalan Bukit Pejabat Residen Betong will be completely closed on Feb 7 from 7am to 4.30pm.
Motorists are advised to take alternative routes such as Jalan Tanjung Assam Betong, the first lane to Medan junction, Jalan Jungkong and Jalan Siew Kwang Ngak.
Jalan Bukit Pejabat Residen Betong will also be closed on Feb 8 from 7am to 12pm, with road users again are advised to use the aforementioned alternative roads.
Wan Mohamad Ali urged the public to plan their journeys ahead of time and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas.

“Drivers are also reminded not to park their vehicles on road shoulders in the involved areas to prevent worsening congestion,” he said.
