KUCHING (July 25): Several roads in Kuching city will be temporarily closed tomorrow evening to make way for the inaugural 2024 Lion Dance Festival street parade.
Kuching district police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah in a statement today said the road from the Sri Aman roundabout at the Padungan Arch all the way to the Kuching Waterfront would be closed from 7pm until 10pm.
“This parade is expected to see the participation of 29 contingents and approximately 500 participants,” he said.
He added that the police will implement road closure procedures and diversions in stages at Jalan Padungan, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Main Bazaar towards the Kuching Waterfront.
The main stage area at the Kuching Waterfront, Ahsmon added, would also be closed to traffic until 10pm when the event is expected to end.
“However, the need for road closures and diversions depends on the current situation as deemed appropriate based on the traffic flow assessment by the on-duty traffic police officers to avoid disrupting road users who want to carry out other daily activities,” he added.
He advised road users to follow instructions from traffic police on the ground and to park their vehicles properly.
Road users can park their vehicles at the Aurora Plaza carpark, Saujana Carpark, Sarawak Plaza, UTC Building, Medan Pelita and Plaza Merdeka.
