Thousands throng Sibu’s Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang for 2024 Merdeka Day Countdown concert

SIBU (Aug 31): Thousands thronged Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang last night for the 2024 Merdeka Day Countdown concert.

Some were willing to come early with their families and friends to secure good spots at the venue.

Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, who is minister in charge for the state-level National Day 2024 celebration was present at the event.

Also present were Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah; Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang; Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Telecommunication) Datuk Liwan Lagang; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat; Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel; Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee; and Sibu Resident Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman.

People were entertained by performances from the local artistes, as well as performances from various Sarawak ethnic groups in Sarawak, before concluding with a countdown and spectacular display of fireworks.
