Three friends fined RM1,300 each for assault

KUCHING: Three friends were each fined RM1,300 in default three months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court for assaulting a 27-year-old man last Friday.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan handed down the sentence to Zainuddin Ahda, Mohd Azizul Hamzah, and Mohammad Fairulnizam Hamzah after they pleaded guilty to charges under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

The incident happened around 2 am at Pangkalan Nibong, Kampung Sungai Bedil.

According to the case facts, the trio assaulted the victim by kicking and hitting him after they accused him of theft in a grocery store.

The victim, who sustained bruises on his left eye, filed a police report and it led to the trio’s arrest the following day.

Investigations revealed the trio intended to harm the victim by kicking and hitting him.

Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew prosecuted the case, while the trio appeared without legal representation.
