KUCHING (Oct 14): Kampung Paroh, Kampung Sejijak and Kampung Tengah Sungai near the Matang area here will soon be installed with additional streetlights, says Tupong assemblyman Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

According to him, the works would be carried out under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for his constituency, with an annual allocation of between RM300,000 and RM400,000.

“For the safety of residents and road users, we will install additional streetlights from the main road to these three villages,” he told reporters when met at the ‘Program Jiwa Komuniti Madani’ for Tupong constituency at Kampung Paroh’s multipurpose hall here yesterday.

“In Kampung Paroh, we found that the main road to the village is quite long, and it is estimated that around 30 streetlight poles will be needed.

“I may also discuss with (Deputy Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is the Petra Jaya MP, about potentially adding to this project’s allocation,” he said.

Fazzrudin said a proposal for the installation of solar-powered streetlights in areas that were far from electrical connections had already been submitted to the relevant local authorities.

“We want bright solar lights that are easy to maintain and long-lasting. They are currently studying this, and I am awaiting their feedback on converting the streetlights to solar power,” he disclosed.

Meanwhile, regarding the upgrading works on Jalan Matang Baru Phase 2, Fazzrudin said there was ‘a 0.15 per cent delay’ in the project as was reported by the appointed contractor last month.

“However, this delay is still acceptable and that the contractor has several strategies to expedite the construction process.

“The main challenge is not in the construction itself, but the relocation of utilities. I hope the project would, at the latest, reach completion by the end of next year,” he said.

The ‘Program Jiwa Komuniti Madani’ was jointly organised by Kuching District Information Office and Sarawak Information Department, involving three Madani Communities (KM) within Tupong constituency: KM Kampung Gita Lama, KM Kampung Kolong 2, and KM Kampung Paroh.

Present at the event were Sarawak Information Department director Helmi Hamid; KM Kampung Paroh chairman Roslan Tili; KM Kampung Kolong 2 chairman KK Ngadi Robin, and KM Kampung Gita Lama chairman Zamhari Bujang.
