Thrown away like trash: Weak newborn boy found in basin for rubbish near Sibu shophouse

SIBU (Oct 29): A newborn baby boy with umbilical cord still attached was found abandoned at Jalan Tong Sang here this morning.

Members of the public found the baby around 8am discarded in a filthy red basin used for rubbish in front of a shophouse.

The boy was found in the foetal position with his head resting on a plastic bag.

His face could be seen pressed up against the walls of the basin, which was covered in dirt, mould, and mildew, while his umbilical cord could be seen draped over the side of the basin.

There was also water in the basin as it had been raining in the area around 6am.

Those who found the baby brought him to a private hospital for a checkup.

He was later transferred to Sibu Hospital for further observation.

It is understood that he was breathing weakly when discovered.

Police are at the scene to investigate.
