KUCHING: A tree-falling incident due to heavy rain and wind at Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakup road caused a long traffic disruption yesterday, prompting a swift response from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

The incident, which occurred in front of Warong 2000, was reported to Bomba by the public at 12.25 pm. A team from the station was despatched to the scene.

Firefighters clearing the tree debris

Bomba cut the fallen tree using a chainsaw and a pry bar, then cleared the tree debris. Their efforts ensured safe passage for vehicles and restored smooth traffic flow.

The operation ended at 12.55 pm, after which traffic flow has returned to normal.

Meanwhile, as a corresponding measure to address the persistent heavy rainfall and the looming threat of flooding, Bomba has dispatched their team to conduct patrol at flood prone areas.

Patrols were initiated in critical areas across Kuching, including Padang Merdeka, Kg. Satok, Kg. Kudei, Tabuan Road, and Bypass Pending Road.

Upon assessment, the team reported that traffic conditions were under control, despite heavy rainfall earlier. Fortunately, water levels had also receded following a brief flash flood.

Earlier on, members of the public took to their Facebook and shared photos of flood around Padang Merdeka.
