BINTULU (Sept 14): Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing today has announced RM43,000 allocation to aid victims of Sept 12 Rumah Nura Buling fire in Sungai Teban, Labang here.
The Bintulu MP said from the allocation, RM20,000 would be for the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK), and RM1,000 to each of the 23 affected households.
He announced this during a visit to the longhouse today, where he also listened to the immediate needs of the victims.
Tiong said this financial support is intended to help residents purchase essential goods and school supplies such as uniforms, stationery, and books.
The funds were handed over by his special officer, Steven Kong Kai Seng.
In addition to the financial aid, the Bintulu Service Centre would be donating several wheelchairs to longhouse residents in need.
Apart from expressing his sympathy and concern, Tiong also took the opportunity to understand the progress of post-disaster recovery work.
He noted that the poor soil conditions and recurring floods in the longhouse area have made it unsuitable for living, necessitating the relocation of the longhouse.
The longhouse’s JKKK would convene a meeting to develop a temporary resettlement plan for the victims.
The Bintulu Service Centre has pledged to provide support and assistance within its capacity to help the victims navigate this challenging time and return to normal life as soon as possible.
