Tiong: Explore recreational fishing tourism in Bintulu

BINTULU:  Non governmental organisations and the maritime community here have been encouraged to explore the potential of recreational fishing tourism.

Member of Parliament for Bintulu, Datuk Sri Tiong King Sing, stressed that the development of this industry is important for the local economy.

The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture believes that Bintulu has the ability to host an international fishing competition.

“However, this success depends on the provision of complete infrastructure and compliance with safety standards,” he explained.

He said this at the appointment of the new committee of the Bintulu Marina Club and the presentation of prizes to the winners of the Shimano Coastal Fishing competition, at a hotel, here, Sunday night.

He was represented by his Press Secretary, Sia Wan Ting.

Tiong also highlighted the misuse of subsidised diesel, which could damage the fishing and tourism industries.

He urged fishermen to use this facility wisely for the benefit of the people and the sustainability of the industry.

“The safety and integrity of this sector is key to attracting tourists. If we want to strengthen maritime tourism, we must overcome this challenge,” he stressed.

At the ceremony, Tiong also announced an allocation of RM15,000 to the Bintulu Marina Club.
