KUCHING (July 24): The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac), in collaboration with the Sarawak government, is organising the Lion Dance Festival 2024 slated for July 26-28 at the Kuching Waterfront.
In a statement today, Motac said the programme would feature a variety of arts, culture, heritage and tourism activities and is open to the public.
“The main goal of this programme is to highlight the cultural diversity in Malaysia, which can be celebrated together with the local community.
“It also aims to preserve local arts and culture and showcase the uniqueness and diversity of Malaysian cultural arts and heritage to the public,” said the ministry.
Additionally, the programme is expected to be a tourist attraction for both local and international visitors, contributing to the promotion of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign.
The inaugural Lion Dance Festival 2024 is one of the initiatives to boost tourism, culture and the economy in Sarawak, particularly in the Kuching City area, said Motac.
“This festival involves many parties, especially tourism industry players, and will see the presence of domestic and international tourists attending the event,” it added.
Various activities await visitors, including the Lion Dance Group Parade, Opening Ceremony and Gala Night, Local Artists Performance, Sharing Sessions with Lion’s Head Craft Adiguru, Lion Dance Drum Technique Demonstrations, Exhibitions, Handicraft Sales, Interactive Programmes, and much more.
The highlight of the programme would be the launching of the Lion Dance Festival 2024 on July 27 at 7pm.
The event is open to the public from 9am until 10pm.
