MIRI, Sept 17: The upgraded plastic rubbish bins with metal lids at the recreational park in Lorong Kiambang 1, Tudan Phase 3 face the risk of being stolen by unscrupulous parties.
Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin highlighted this concern during his visit to the project today, where he addressed several facility-related issues.
He advised the Miri City Council (MCC) to prioritise both practicality and safety when installing public amenities.
“While a facility may look good, it’s not necessarily practical. We need something more robust and durable for public areas like this recreation park.
“The risks of vandalism and theft must be considered,” he said in a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
The project, which received a funding allocation of RM100,000, began on June 5, 2024 and was completed on Sept 4, 2024.
Lee also stressed the importance of safety, especially for facilities used by children and parents.
He urged residents and local committees to actively engage in the maintenance of public facilities to prevent vandalism.
Also present were Penghulu Nasir Rahim, councillor Raymond Jenang as well as community leaders Mohamad Suhaimi Openg and Yakup Sebli. — DayakDaily
