SERIAN: Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is key to preparing the young generation to enter the ever-changing job market.
Children in Sarawak should therefore seize the opportunity to improve their knowledge in the TVET field.
“In facing global challenges such as Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), TVET education is the key,” said Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee.
“In that regard, I urge every individual present here, especially the students, not to miss the opportunity to get as much information about TVET education and training offered at the training centre or college as a preparation for your future,” he said.
He was speaking at the opening of the Sarawak TVET Carnival 2024 at the Serian Convention Centre, here, Saturday.
At the same time, he stressed that the participants, especially students, consider it as a challenge and an opportunity to pursue their dreams, explore their potential and become agents of change in society.
He added that technical education or TVET is an important alternative for students in achieving their dreams in the future.
“This approach exposes students to practical and industry skills in line with market demand.
“Through it, students can learn fields such as wiring, welding, drawing plans, engineering, technicians, information technology, architecture and many more,” he said.
With such skills, he is confident that students can create their own business one day in addition to becoming a job creator.
The Sarawak TVET Carnival plays an important role as a platform to empower TVET education.
Among the activities in the programme are exhibitions, talks, workshops and competitions to encourage visitors, especially the younger generation, to participate and increase their confidence in a career in the TVET field.
Also present were Deputy Minister (Talent Development) Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development (Commodities and Regional Development) Datuk Martin Ben, Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus and Chief Executive Officer of TEGAS Udin Bujang.
