KUCHING, Jan 29: Two men were each sentenced to 40 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today after admitting to breaking into a restaurant along Jalan Satok, during which cash and a donation box were stolen.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan imposed the jail terms on Mohd Asfia Abu Bakar, 33, and Bathrim Haini, 28, after they pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34.
The pair were charged with acting in concert to commit the offence at about 7.14am on Jan 5, 2026, at the restaurant.
According to the case facts, the male complainant was alerted by the restaurant’s cook that the premises had been broken into via an aluminium window in the kitchen area.
A review of CCTV footage later showed two men entering the restaurant and removing a cash drawer and a donation box from the counter.
A police report was subsequently lodged, leading to the arrest of both accused.
The prosecution was conducted by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin. Both accused were unrepresented during the proceedings. — DayakDaily
