SIBU: Traffic police have arrested two locals for riding their motorcycles dangerously along Jalan Awang Ramli Amit last Saturday (Sept 7).
The operation, codenamed ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’, was held from 9pm to 2.30am on Sunday (Sept 8).
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement, said that the team arrested a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy for reckless and dangerous riding.
It is an offence under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of up to five years and fine of up to RM15,000, and a driver’s licence suspension for a period of up to five years, upon conviction.
In addition, the team also handed three traffic summonses to the motorcyclists for not having any licence plates, modified exhaust and failure to wear a helmet.
Zulkipli advised road users to always adhere to traffic laws for their own and other road users’ safety.
He also urged parents to monitor and be aware of their children’s activities to prevent them from being involved in illegal activities.
