KUCHING (Feb 2): A total of 23 operations conducted by the Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) from Jan 15 to 31 recorded seizures in excess of RM35 million.
Its commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said the highest value involved frozen food products without permits at RM25.01 million, followed by untaxed cigarettes and alcoholic beverages at RM5.79 million.
“Other items seized comprised controlled goods and daily essentials such as gas cylinders, rice, sugar and garlic worth RM1.17 million; timber worth RM425,000; and RM2.21 million in illegal firecrackers and fireworks,” he said in a statement.
He added that vehicles and equipment used for these activities were also impounded for further investigation.
Lim said seizures recorded over the two-week period brought the overall total for the month of January to RM45.8 million.
“The 55 cases recorded from Jan 1 to 31 saw the arrest of 57 individuals, including foreign nationals,” he said.
