Tyng Dance Academy prances to victory with 15 gold medals at dancesport championship

KUCHING (Aug 3): Tyng Dance Academy has brought immense pride to Sarawak by securing 15 gold medals at the 3rd World Dancesport Federation (WDSF) Malaysia Open Dancesport Championship held in Shah Alam from July 26-28.

The dancers also earned 11 silver and six bronze medals at the event, which featured over 300 athletes from 18 countries.

Tyng Dance Academy principal and coach Chan Tyng Tyng expressed her pride in their achievements.

“We are thrilled by our dancers’ performances and their dedication. We are committed to continuing this journey of excellence and bringing more glory to Sarawak.

“We want to see Sarawak stand proudly at the pinnacle of the international stage,” she told The Borneo Post in an interview today.

She noted this championship served as a crucial points qualifier for the year-end world championship in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Among the standout performers was 13-year-old Jayda Chang, who was crowned champion in the Junior 1 Solo category of the National Solo Ranking.

Trisha Yap, 15, earned second place in the Junior 2 Solo category, while 18-year-old Janice Liaw secured third place in the Adult Solo category.

Young prodigies such as 7-year-olds Jovanna Goh and Ariella Tang dazzled in the Single Dance Solo categories, each winning two gold medals in Cha Cha and Jive.

Other top performers included 9-year-old Ooi Shee Le and 18-year-old Claudin Tay, who also claimed top honors.

Newcomers Ally Bong and Eva Wong made a striking debut, earning four and three gold medals respectively.

Special mentions go to 9-year-old Belle Bong, who won a silver and a bronze medal in her age category; 12-year-old Bong Ker Chien, who reached the semi-finals in the Malaysia Junior 1 Ranking; 18-year-old Amanda Goh, a finalist in Single Dance; and 19-year-old Jocelyn Yap, a semi-finalist in the University Category.

“This remarkable achievement shows Tyng Dance Academy’s commitment to excellence and its pivotal role in elevating Sarawak’s status in the world of dance.

“We are always proud to represent Sarawak and to fly its flag high. The academy’s dancers’ achievements bring immense pride to the homeland and showcase the exceptional talent nurtured within our walls,” said Chan.

Meanwhile, Jayda Chang was moved to tears upon winning.

“This sport is really tough, but I will never stop loving it and will never stop fighting for Sarawak,” she shared.

As Tyng Dance Academy celebrates this victory, they are eagerly preparing for the upcoming Borneo Open International Dancesport Championship scheduled to take place at Raia Hotel here from Nov 1-3.

The academy is calling upon all Sarawakians, government ministries, and officials for support in their journey of excellence.
