KUCHING: The Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi has extended their congratulations to the Sarawak contingent for emerging as the overall champions at the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA).
He said he felt immense pride in the continent’s achievement of securing 76 gold medals, marking a triumphant return to the top spot after 30 years.
“Alhamdulillah, after 30 years, Sarawak successfully won the 21st edition of SUKMA. My wife and I would like to congratulate (the Sarawak contingent) and well done,” he said in a statement.
Wan Junaidi also congratulated the state government, especially Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also the patron of the 2024 SUKMA Sarawak Secretariat.
He also conveyed his appreciation to Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah for being the chairman of the secretariat and the Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datuk Hii Chang Kee for being the chief executive officer of the secretariat for all the efforts in making the Games a success.
“To the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, who is also the chef de mission and Ministry of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development permanent secretary Morshidi Fredrick, who is also the deputy chef de mission, my heartfelt congratulations and well done for keeping our athletes competing in good and organised conditions,” he said.
Wan Junaidi also extended his gratitude to the officials of contingents from other states for their cooperation.
“Not forgetting athletes from other states, I congratulate you for your effort, cooperation, sportsmanship and involvement.
“Remember, you are all the best because you have already proven your capability in the sports events you participated in,” he said.
He then gave accolades to the Sarawak athletes for their outstanding achievements at this year’s Games.
“The success of Sarawak’s athletes in bagging gold medals has placed Sarawak as the overall champion. Thank you for bringing honour to Sarawak.
“The effort, spirit and determination of all athletes coming from various backgrounds, have made you the sports heroes and heroines of Sarawak,” he said.
