KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) is undertaking various efforts, including memorandums of understanding with strategic partners, to become a global knowledge hub in Sarawak.

Pro-Chancellor of UiTM Sarawak, Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz, said this is in line with its commitment to producing outstanding graduates in various fields.

“In this context, UiTM places full emphasis on academic achievement, professional skills, and creative thinking, in line with global developments.

“Several memorandums of understanding with strategic partners have been intensified. For example, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Council, the Turkish Embassy and the Canadian Embassy.

“These collaborations serve as platforms for transformational shifts towards the sustainability of relevant and beneficial knowledge,” he said at UiTM’s 99th Convocation Ceremony here on Tuesday (Oct 15).

Abdul Wahab added that the relationships also open opportunities for graduates to actively participate in various activities, which will help enhance their knowledge, skills and professionalism in the working world.

UiTM, he added, also places great importance on student development and leadership activities, ensuring that students possess high interpersonal skills and outstanding personalities.

“For example, the programme with Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo in the Tree Planting Project,” he said.

At the same time, he noted that based on employability indices, graduates from the Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies have achieved nearly 90 per cent employability.

This impressive achievement, he added, reflects that these fields of study remain relevant as contributors, builders and catalysts to global economic growth.

“The world today is a challenging one, so young people must equip themselves with various other skills,” he said.

The convocation ceremony at UiTM Sarawak will take place over three days, starting yesterday until October 17, at Dewan Jubli, UiTM Sarawak, Samarahan Campus, involving around 1,705 graduates overall.

It will see 426 graduates awarded bachelor’s degrees, while 1,279 graduates will be awarded diplomas.

This convocation ceremony will also see six graduates receiving the Best Graduate Award (AGT) in eight different categories.

The AGT recipient is led by Izrie Hasfiezul Hashim, a Bachelor of Administrative Science (Honours) graduate from the Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies, who received the Best Graduate Award, while Syamimi Sabdin, a graduate of Diploma in Sports Studies from the Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation, received the Best Graduate Award (Diploma).
