KUCHING (Oct 31): Sarawak’s unity and diversity must be upheld, especially during festive celebrations, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
He highlighted that the celebration of various festivals, including Deepavali, is a fundamental aspect of Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage.
“It is essential that we uphold the unity and diversity that define Sarawak.
“The tradition of open houses and visiting one another during the festive season provides a wonderful opportunity to strengthen friendships and foster community bonds.
“Such gatherings bring together people of different religions, races, and cultures, underscoring the importance of inclusivity within our community,” he said.
Uggah was speaking to reporters after attending a Diwali luncheon hosted by Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Association Kuching president, Dato Shankar Ram.
Later, he and his wife, Dato Doreen Mayang, received a warm welcome at a Diwali open house hosted by Sarawak Sikh Temple Association president, Datuk Dr Kalwinder Singh Khaira.
