KUCHING (March 3): Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) School of Design is set to formalise academic collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), marking a significant step towards strengthening regional cooperation in architectural education and research.

Architecture Programme Leader Dr Rozia Adenan said the two institutions will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to elevate their long-standing engagement beyond annual educational visits.

“In fact, we will be signing an MoU tomorrow (March 3). Every year, we bring our architecture students here for an educational visit,” she told reporters during the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Sports, Recreation and Culture Sub-Committee iftar (breaking of fast) session with the media at the Borneo Cultures Museum here on Monday.

The event was also attended by State Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Gerald Rentap Jabu, who is also Saberkas deputy president.

Rozia said the new partnership would shift towards more structured academic engagement, including workshops and potential joint research initiatives.

“Previously, we only came for educational visits, but now we are working together with Unimas to shape the visit more towards workshops and possibly research collaboration. So it has been a really positive outcome,” she said.

Expressing optimism about the collaboration, Dr Rozia said she hopes the partnership will continue to grow and deliver long-term benefits to both institutions.

“We hope to continue and further develop this programme together,” she said.
