Upgrading of drains at Taman Happy Valley to kick off early 2025

KUCHING (Sept 28): The existing drains at Taman Happy Valley, Jalan Luis off Jalan Tun Jugah here will be upgraded early next year to address flash-flooding issues.

According to Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, the proposal covers the installation of two water pumps, at a total cost of RM2.05 million, and the project tender will be opened this December.

“The project is to be implemented to resolve the flash-flooding issue that the residents have been suffering from for many, many years,” he said in a statement issued after a meeting with the state Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) here yesterday, where various issues related to the project were discussed.

Yap, a Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) lawmaker, said DID Sarawak had decided to call for a tender for the project to be opened by this December.

He added that the commencement of works was scheduled for February next year, based on the request of the residents since the heaviest rainfall would normally occur in that month.

Yap recalled that during the 2021 state polls, he had promised to give his best in resolving the flash-flooding issue at Taman Happy Valley if he won the election.

“I am committed to finding solutions and resolving problems in my N12 Kota Sentosa constituency through implementation of more people centric projects covering basic infrastructure and improvement of roads, drains, street lamps, recreation parks, libraries, schools, community halls, markets, etc to improve the people’s living standards,” he pledged.
