Wan Junaidi, Fauziah hand over welfare aid to 150 recipients

KUCHING (Oct 13): The 78th birthday celebration of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar continued today with a high-tea reception at a leading hotel here.

The Head of State was joined by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.

Also gracing the event were Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who is also minister-in-charge of the celebration.

At the ceremony, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah handed over contributions to 150 recipients from various welfare institutions.

These included Taman Seri Puteri Kuching, Sekolah Tunas Bakti Kuching, Desa Bina Diri Kuching, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah, Rumah Seri Kenangan Kuching as well as monthly aid recipients under the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

Guests at the reception were presented with a special video presentation on the life of Wan Junaidi, who later participated in a cutting of the ‘pulut kuning’ or yellow glutinous rice cake as a symbolic gesture to mark his birthday.

The guests of honour were also treated to a cultural performance by Kasuma Tari Group as well as performances from Sarawakian singers Nur Hijrah Yahya, Firdaus Materang and Bob Yusuf.

Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Sarawak Cabinet ministers and deputy ministers; and other distinguished guests were also among those present.
