KUCHING: There is no issue regarding the appointment of new Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, says a state Deputy Minister in the Premier's Department.

Datuk Abdullah Saidol, who is in charge of corporate affairs and the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), said this was because the appointment was done in accordance with the state constitution.

"We welcome the new Head of State and wish him all the best in carrying out his duties for Sarawak, which is now aggressively developing," he told reporters after attending a blood donation drive here on Tuesday (Jan 30).

Abdullah also said Ukas would look into arranging a meeting or special interview with Wan Junaidi for the local media to get to know him better.

At the same time, he said Wan Junaidi appreciated the contributions of the media.

"He always wants to know what is going on in Sarawak and to stay updated on the news. Probably soon he will be meeting the people and attending some programmes," he added.

Wan Junaidi was appointed as the eighth Sarawak Governor for a four-year term effective Jan 26, 2024.

He takes over from Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, who had held the post for three terms from March 1, 2014.
