Wan Junaidi, wife congratulate Sarawak contingent for their victory in Sukma XXI

KUCHING (Aug 25): The Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi have extended their congratulations to the Sarawak contingent for their victory in the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI).

“Alhamdulillah, after 30 years, Sarawak finally won Sukma XXI. My wife and I would like to extend our congratulations to the Sarawak contingent that had done well at Sukma 2024, which concluded today (Aug 24),” said the Sarawak Governor in a statement last night.

Wan Junaidi expressed his immense pride in the state contingent for being crowned the overall champion after securing 76 gold medals.

He commended the Sarawak government and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for their contributions to the success of Sukma XXI.

He also lauded Minister for Youth, Sport, and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee, who served as the Sukma XXI Secretariat chairman and chief executive officer respectively, for their tireless efforts in making Sukma XXI a success.

Additionally, he thanked Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport, and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, who also served as the Chef de Mission, and permanent secretary to the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Entrepreneur Development Morshidi Fredrick, who also served as the Deputy Chef de Mission, for successfully strengthening the entire Sarawak contingent.

“Thank you all for ensuring that our athletes who competed are in good conditions and managed well,” said Wan Junaidi.

The Sarawak Governor also extended his appreciation to the contingent officers from other states for their cooperation and support in making Sukma XXI in Sarawak a success.

“Not forgetting the athletes from other states, I congratulate you on your efforts, cooperation, sportsmanship and involvement in making the Sukma XXI Sarawak 2024 a success.

“Bear in mind that you all are the best because you have proven your ability in the sports events you participated in,” he said.

Wan Junaidi said Sarawakian athletes had performed exceptionally well, and he was proud of their achievements in the national games this time.

“The success of Sarawakians in winning the gold medals has placed Sarawak as the overall champion. Thank you for making Sarawak proud!

“The efforts, passion and dedication of all athletes who come from various backgrounds should not go unrecorded. Thank you all for making Sukma XXI Sarawak 2024 a success,” he added.
