KUCHING, Jan 31: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) has called on the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) MPs to table a motion in the Dewan Rakyat calling for the restoration of the State’s oil and gas rights.

This follows a motion filed on Jan 12 in the Federal Court, which sees PETRONAS seeking clarity on the applicable regulatory framework governing its operations in Sarawak, with the respondents being the federal government and the Sarawak government.

In a statement, PBK president Voon Lee Shan said the move challenges Sarawak’s constitutional authority.

He also proposed a parliamentary motion calling for:

  • The repeal or amendment of federal laws that have stripped Sarawak and Sabah of ownership and control over their oil and gas resources.
  • The restoration of full legislative and proprietary rights to the States.
  • PETRONAS shall not initiate or continue any legal proceedings against the Sarawak or Sabah governments without explicit parliamentary approval.

He went on to say that GPS MPs should not fear tabling the motion in Parliament, as it is neither seditious nor inciting, adding that it is about protecting Sarawak’s constitutional rights and “we are here to back you up”.

“Table the motion, debate it openly. This is the moment of truth. History will remember who stood up for Sarawak,” he said.

Voon added that PBK stands ready to defend Sarawak’s oil and gas rights, as well as to restore Sarawak’s dignity within the federation.

“PBK is clear: Sarawak’s oil and gas belong to Sarawakians. Any law that says otherwise must be repealed or amended. Anything less is surrender.” — DayakDaily
