KUCHING (March 11): Wisma Melayu Sarawak would stand as a platform out to strengthen the identity, history, arts and culture of the Malay community in the state, upon its full completion.

According to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the development is also in line with Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS)’s aspiration of strengthening the efforts to preserve, conserve and develop Sarawak Malay’s cultural heritage.

“This is to ensure that this heritage would continue to be appreciated and inherited by present and future generations,” he said in a statement, issued in connection with a visit to the project site here on Sunday.

Awang Tengah, also the AKYBMS Board of Trustees chairman, was briefed on the progress of the works, including the plans for the final phase of construction.

The Deputy Premier also reviewed several key components of the development to ensure that the facilities would be able to support various social, cultural, educational and community programmes pertaining to the Malay community in Sarawak.

Accompanying Awang Tengah were AKYBMS Board of Trustees deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Naroden Majais, AKYBMS general manager Datu Dr Sanib Said, as well as representatives of the contractor, consultancy teams and the AKYBMS.
