KUCHING, 4 Oct: The Sarawak Government is planning strategic measures to expand the market for local women entrepreneurs' products including through cooperation with airlines and penetration of Singaporean markets.
Sarawak Minister of Women, Child Development and Community Welfare Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the One Stop Collection Centre (OSCC) in Samarahan City will play an important role in ensuring that product quality and packaging meet wider market standards.
According to him, his ministry sees potential cooperation with airlines like AirAsia to market Sarawak's traditional food products directly to passengers.
"We hope that later in terms of marketing, we can market it with AirAsia for example. Because we know that in this case there is an opportunity to market food for the passengers on board.
"For example, from us serving with peanuts, why not have our varied lapis pie or pineapple tart wrapped well and attractive to serve to passengers for promotional purposes", he said while addressing the 2026 Micro Entrepreneur of the Year Awards ceremony at MetroCity Event Centre (MCEC), here today.
Fatimah said that the fully completed OSCC facility with an area of 1,245 square meters will not only serve as a product collection centre, but also be used for quality scraping and improving the packaging aspects of micro entrepreneurs' products.
In addition to the aviation market, he said, the government is also looking at opportunities to bring the products to Singapore through the Singapore Sarawak Office of Trade and Tourism (STATOS).
"We also saw the opportunity to market these products from OSCC to Singapore through the STATOS office there. Specifically, these activities at the OSCC in the future will, God willing, improve not only in terms of quality but also productivity so that supplies are sustainable and sustained", he said.
