KUCHING: The Sarawak women’s football team is stepping up its preparations for the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Sarawak 2024 with three more friendly matches on the horizon.
Head coach Sufian Ibrahim expressed satisfaction with his team’s progress, highlighting improved cohesion and tactical understanding.
“We’ve had valuable exposure locally and internationally, including stints in Sabah, Selangor, and Thailand,” he said.
“Our recent friendly matches have shown significant improvement, and technically, the players are about 80 per cent ready.”
With the team’s foundation solidified, Sufian had identified the starting eleven for Sarawak.
“We have three more friendly matches lined up, including one today (Aug 3), another on Wednesday, and a final one next Saturday,” he said.
Training now focuses on tactical refinement and real-game scenarios. To enhance versatility, Sufian is testing players in multiple positions.
“We play in a carnival-style format, so it’s crucial for players to be proficient in at least two positions,” he added.
To further challenge his team, Sufian had arranged friendly matches against a men’s under-15 side.
“This will test our intensity and ability to control the game in fast-paced situations,” he said.
