Women who stole tea, snacks from Kuching grocery store placed under RM500 peace bond

KUCHING (July 24): The Magistrates’ Court here today placed two women on an RM500 bond each to keep the peace for six months for stealing 13 packets of cuttlefish snack and five packets of instant tea from a grocery store.

Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan made the order against Nurshadatul Akma Jeffery, 33, and Marani Rais, 52, after they pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

They committed the offence at a grocery store in Wisma Wan, Tabuan Jaya here at around 1.45pm on July 16.

Based on the facts of the case, the grocery store manager saw Nurshadatul and Marani acting in a suspicious manner at the premises.

The manager and another three employees then followed Nurshadatul and Marani and detained them at the car park outside.

Upon checking, the staff found 13 packets of cuttlefish snacks and five packets of instant tea which were unpaid for.

A police report was lodged and the women were arrested at around 2.15pm on the same day.

The estimated loss was RM46.80.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case, while Nurshadatul and Marani were unrepresented by legal counsel.
