Wong thanks authorities for preventive measures against floods in West Bank

SIBU (Oct 29): Assistance has been sought from the relevant authorities to carry out the necessary preventive measures against flooding in the low-lying parts of West Bank in Bawang Assan constituency, said Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

The Bawang Assan assemblyman pointed out that with the imminent onset of the raining season in November onwards, the low-lying parts of the West Bank in Bawang Assan constituency will be subjected to different degrees of flooding.

“If the drains are not cleaned, farming areas in particular are frequently submerged under water.

“In view of this, myself together with Kapitan Wong Hua, Penghulu Ngiam Li Ping and Kapitan Hii Toh Tieng have carried out thorough surveys and identified the affected areas, and have requested the relevant authorities to help carry out the necessary preventive measures,” he said.

In this regard, Wong expressed gratitude to Drainage and Irrigation Department, Public Works Department and Sibu Rural District Council, which all helped in one way or another in the past few weeks to carry out the necessary works.
