MIRI (Aug 17): Private enterprises are encouraged to collaborate with the government towards creating a healthier living environment in their respective areas.

In making this call, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak Datuk Sebastian Ting also expressed his hope to work with local businesses in carrying out projects meant to benefit the community.

“Projects such as upgrading works on recreational parks involving the installation of basic exercise equipment and proper landscaping, would not only benefit the people, but would also improve the surroundings.

“Besides calling upon more people to exercise outdoors, such projects also encourage more social interactions,” he said when inspecting a new recreational park at Friendship Garden, Jalan 1 yesterday.

On the park, Ting said the works, costing RM100,000, involved the installation of six units of seesaws, a two-person high bar, a swing, a fitness riding machine, an outdoor fitness walking machine and a sit-up station, along with upgrading works on the concrete walkway, as well as the installation of concrete slab and foot massage stones.

He added that the project kicked off on July 1 this year, and should reach completion by this Sept 30.
