KUCHING: As of Oct 25, work progress at the 3rd Mile Market is at 86 per cent, with the contract completion date set on Nov 14.
Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai, who conducted a site visit to the market, has instructed the contractor to scrape and remove all epoxy flake flooring and submit a method statement for rectification proposal to MPP for approval.
“Water seepage beneath the epoxy layer has weakened its bond, causing it to peel.
“We acknowledged that the selection of the epoxy flake anti-slip coating was incorrect, as it was proposed by the contractor and the first time the council is using epoxy flake anti slip coating.
“Consequently, payment will be withheld from the contractor until the defect has been rectified. This project is funded by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), which has mandated that all markets must have anti-slip flooring,” he said in a statement following his visit to the market recently.
Tan added that MPP will constantly keep the hawkers at 3rd Mile Market updated and informed on the rectification works.
For any inquiries, the public can contact MPP market staff, call the MPP hotline at 082-615566, or send a WhatsApp message to 013-802 5566.
