LAWAS, Sept 18: The completion of Yayasan PETRONAS Clean Water Project at Kampung Lakutan has enabled more than 100 local residents to enjoy clean water supply directly into their homes.

The clean water project, which was supported by Yayasan PETRONAS, the social impact arm of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), was implemented by Yayasan Ikhlas and benefitted 26 households which previously relied on stream and rain water for their daily needs.

PETRONAS general manager Norazibah Md Rabu handed over the project to Kampung Lakutan community representative Serudin Suharna during a ceremony at Surau Nor Iman, Kampung Lakutan Baru on Sunday (Sept 15).

The handover ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also the Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, and Minister for International Trade and Investment.

The filter membrane installation at Surau Nor Iman is a part of the Yayasan PETRONAS Clean Water Project at Kampung Lakutan, Lawas.

In a media release today, PETRONAS highlighted that a similar project is also being implemented to resolve water issues at Kampung Yoh in Bintulu.

It involves the installation of a tubewell and will benefit 37 families there who have been experiencing insufficient water supply.

Through this effort, Yayasan PETRONAS aims to provide rural communities with easier access to treated and clean water, which can substantially contribute to better health and quality of life.

This initiative underscores Yayasan PETRONAS’ commitment to enhancing community well-being and supporting projects that address essential needs.

In addition, this project also coincides with the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Sixth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which is Clean Water and Sanitation. — DayakDaily
