KUCHING (Oct 9): The Batu Lintang chapter of Young Malaysians Movement (YMM) recently held its inaugural ‘Sui Lah!’ badminton competition, which gathered 32 teams.

The pair of Sim Yok Yew and Avan Ong Zhens emerged the grand champions, taking home RM800, while first runners-up John Lee Sheau Chang and Desmond Lim Chia Chen bagged RM400.

Two teams ended up tied for third place, which offered a cash prize of RM200. They are Julius Christensen Ng Hui Fook and Lau Zi Feng, and Ivan Khian Syen Wei and Phang Khong Yen.

YMM Batu Lintang said one of the objectives of the competition was to provide a platform for youths to showcase their talents and also enhance their social skills.

“Through the competition, we also want to encourage participation in sports, instilling in the participants the value of sportsmanship, promoting a healthy lifestyle and physical fitness, and also raising the awareness of sports as a valuable alternative for managing stress in today’s challenging environment.

“These goals align with our organisation’s three core pillars namely youth development, youth entrepreneurship and youth contribution,” it said in a press statement.

YMM Batu Lintang also expressed its gratitude to Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How for his generous support and sponsorship for this event.

“A special thank you also goes to the organising committee chairman Manuel Danielle Patrick for his leadership in making this event a success.

“Of course, this achievement would not have been possible without the support of YMM Batu Lintang honorary chairman James Wong, branch chairman Vincent Ng, deputy chairman Andy Voon and other leaders,” it said.
