KUCHING, July 12: Sarawakian dancer Janice Liaw has claimed six medals at the Vietnam Dancesport Championship held in conjunction with the Hanoi Stars Dance Festival from July 5 to 7.
Competing against elite dancers from 11 countries, the 18-year-old emerged as the champion in Youth Open Solo Single Dance – Samba.
The other 10 participating countries were Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, China, Hong Kong (China), South Korea, Spain and Macau (China).
Janice’s exceptional achievement was accompanied by an impressive haul of six medals – one gold, one silver and four bronze.
“Janice’s accomplishment is a testament to the rigorous training and expert coaching at Tyng Dance Academy, under the esteemed guidance of Teacher Tyng Tyng.
“This journey was particularly significant for Janice, marking her first solo travel experience, where she navigated through three airports to reach Hanoi.
“Her dedication, resilience, and extraordinary performance have truly set her apart, bringing immense pride to Sarawak,” the Academy said in a statement today.
At the same time, the Academy announced that the 2nd Borneo Open International Dancesport Championship (BOIDC) is set to take place from Nov 1 to 3, at the Raia Hotel and Convention Centre, Kuching.
“This event promises to be a grand showcase of talent, drawing top dancers from around the world to compete on Sarawak soil.
“The academy looks forward to continuing its tradition of excellence and invites the community to join in celebrating this vibrant cultural event,” it added. — DayakDaily
