KUCHING, Sept 17: A 48-year-old man was found unconscious and later pronounced dead after a fire broke out at a two-storey house at Lorong Temenggong Haji Gobil, Petrajaya, here this morning.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the Petra Jaya Station received a distress call at 10.08am and arrived at the scene two minutes later.
The fire, which involved the kitchen area of the semi-permanent house, damaged about 30 per cent of the structure.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 10.24am and extinguished it shortly afterwards.
During a post-fire inspection, firefighters found the victim unconscious inside a room.
The Bomba Operations Centre subsequently contacted the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), whose personnel attended the scene.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by MOH personnel, and his body was handed over to PDRM for further action.
Nine firefighters from the Petra Jaya Station were involved in the operation, which ended at 11.57am after firefighters conducted checks to ensure there were no remaining sources of fire and that the scene was safe. – DayakDaily
