KUCHING: ALUMASTER, through Classic Emas (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, has contributed RM40,000 worth of aluminium furniture to Hope Place and families in need under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, ‘Hope Starts at Home’.

ALUMASTER’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, William Koh said the initiative was driven by the belief that a home was more than just a physical structure.

“A home is more than a roof over our heads. It is where families gather, where children learn and grow, and where we find comfort and security. But for families facing hardship, creating a safe and practical home can be a real challenge,” he said.

He said this during the launching of the ‘Hope Starts at Home’ initiative at Classic Emas (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, Demak Laut Industrial Park here today.

He said while aluminium was known for its durability, water resistance and practicality, the initiative was ultimately about the difference that useful and lasting furniture could make in the daily lives of families in need.

“Today is not about the material itself. It is about what useful, lasting furniture can mean in a family’s daily life – a place to sit, to eat, to study and to spend time together,” he said.

The contribution comprises TV cabinets, shoe cabinets, toilet basins and custom cabinets, which are being channelled to families in Serian, Stampin, Petra Jaya and Santubong, including households affected by floods.

Hope Place founder, Kelvin Wan said the contribution would provide practical and longer-lasting support to families under the organisation’s care, particularly those living in flood-prone areas.

He said Hope Place currently supports 359 underprivileged families around Kuching, including persons with disabilities, children, single parents, dependent elderly and low-income households.

“Every two months, we provide basic food aid to support these families. But some of them live on swampy land and their houses are flooded every year during the rainy season,” he said.

Wan said flooding often resulted in families losing essential household items, including electrical appliances and furniture, which were difficult to replace due to their limited financial means.

“After the flood, when they clean their houses, they find that their electrical appliances and cabinets are spoiled. Because they are not rich, they cannot afford good-quality items and usually buy cheaper ones,” he said.

He said ALUMASTER’s aluminium furniture offered a more durable option for such households as the items could be washed and reused after flooding.

“After a flood, the furniture is basically thrown away. But with ALUMASTER’s aluminium products, they can withstand such disasters. Even after a flood, the items can still be used after being washed and cleaned,” he said.
