KUCHING (Aug 24): Sarawak’s petanque team has achieved a new record high at the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma XXI), winning five gold medals and three silver, SAID Sukma Sarawak assistant chef-de-mission for petanque, Safiee Ahmad.
He pointed out that this medal haul surpassed the initial target of two gold medals and was the biggest by any state contingent in petanque throughout Sukma history.
“Alhamdulillah, the Sarawak petanque team continued to win medals after medals.
“This (tally of five gold and three silver) is a record and a historic feat,” he said on his official Facebook page DUN N43 Daro.
Sarawak won its fifth gold medal on Thursday (Aug 22) when the trio of Abdul Harith Oris, Aniq Asyraff Mohamad Hafizul, and Farid Amirul Muhammad defeated Kelantan 10-5 in the Men’s Triple category final at the Sarawak Petanque Centre in Santubong.
The other gold medals won by Sarawak were in Women’s Shooting, Women’s Singles, Men’s Singles, and Mixed Doubles.
Trailing second place behind Sarawak in the petanque medal tally is Perak with two gold, one silver, and one bronze, followed by Sabah in third place with two gold medals.
