MIRI (Sept 30): A 40-year-old man was reported missing yesterday after he failed to return home from a hunting trip at a jungle area opposite Kampung Long Laput in Baram.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said the man’s family members lodged a missing person’s report at 2.46pm.
“The victim and two others, known as Stephan Wan Sin and Ah Ngung, went for a hunting trip on Friday (Sept 27) at around 1pm at an area opposite Kampung Long Laput.
“The other two had returned home safely to the village, but the victim still failed to return even after a police report was lodged by his family on Sunday afternoon,” Bomba said in a statement today.
The distance between the village and the jungle area is approximately one hour and 30 minutes on foot.
Bomba added villagers had searched the jungle area yesterday but the victim was nowhere to be found.
“They only found a camouflage shirt, which had been hung on an oil palm tree,” said the department.
A search and rescue (SAR) operation was activated with personnel from the Marudi fire station dispatched to the location.
The village is some 165km from the fire station.
