KUCHING, July 27: The Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) has assured its commitment to work with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) in tree-planting programmes and the greening of surrounding areas.

BBHA chairman Dato Peter Minos said Bung Bratak is one of the ‘green lungs’ around Kuching and should be appreciated and conserved.

“If everyone in this world plants a tree a year, this will help in mitigating global warming. However, many are not bothered, and this is the problem,” he said in a press statement today.

According to Minos, the heatwave, especially in July, is an example of excessive industrial activities polluting the environment through carbon production that leads to global warming.

He said that although little can be done to stop industrial nations from doing this, everyone can play their role by planting trees to produce more oxygen.

“A hundred years from today, if we do not do something positive against global warming, it is possible that we cannot survive the terrible heat. Life on earth may just be gone forever,” he opined. — DayakDaily
