DARO, June 11: The expansion of Daro New Town continues to record strong market response, with all Phase 2 commercial units fully taken up ahead of its scheduled completion in November 2026, reflecting growing confidence in the township’s development potential in central Sarawak.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the encouraging demand underscores the viability of Daro as an emerging economic centre, driven by structured township development and increasing business interest.
“Phase 1 has already been completed and is fully operational, while Phase 2 builds on that momentum as part of the area’s phased development plan,” he was quoted by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) as saying after visiting the project site yesterday (June 10).
Phase 2 of the Daro New Town Extension comprises 20 units of two-storey shophouses, 10 units of two-storey mini shops, and 10 industrial cottages designed to support local entrepreneurs.
Supporting infrastructure including public toilets, an electricity substation, open spaces and parking facilities are also being provided to create a conducive business environment.
Awang Tengah said the strong uptake of the commercial units reflects Daro’s growing appeal as a business location and its potential to attract further investment.
“This clearly demonstrates Daro’s strong potential as a new economic growth centre,” he added.
He also expressed appreciation to the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) and all implementing agencies for ensuring the project progresses according to schedule. — DayakDaily
