‘Differences are treasures’: Unity vital for Malaysia’s global brand, says tourism minister

KUCHING, Sept 16: Malaysia’s rich tapestry of cultures, languages, and heritage serves as a primary asset in attracting global visitors ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), says Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Seri Tiong King Sing.

In a Malaysia Day message shared on Facebook today, Tiong emphasised that the country’s multicultural fabric should be celebrated as a unifying national strength rather than a source of division.

“From Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak, differences in culture, language, customs and heritage are not separators, but treasures that enrich Malaysia’s identity,” he said.

He stressed that preserving harmony and mutual respect remains essential, both for internal cohesion and for shaping the nation’s international brand during the upcoming tourism push.

Beyond its scenic landscapes, Tiong noted that Malaysia’s true appeal lies in its cultural wealth and hospitable spirit.

“Malaysia is not only beautiful to visit, but also rich in culture, the friendliness of its people and the spirit of togetherness,” he added.

The minister’s call coincides with Malaysia Day 2026, celebrated under the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati.” Concluding his message, Tiong urged all Malaysians to continue moving forward together toward a peaceful, prosperous, and harmonious future. — DayakDaily
