KUCHING, July 22: The collaboration between Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute (TROPI) and Hokkaido University has been important in advancing carbon dioxide and methane research fluxing in peatlands, an area whereby Malaysia’s expertise is limited.
According to Sarawak TROPI director Dr Lulie Melling, as a result, they have emerged as the first Malaysian team with a comprehensive and long-term approach to monitoring greenhouse gas dynamics under different land uses in tropical peatlands.
“I am deeply impressed and proud of Hokkaido University’s commitment and remarkable dedication to advancing global initiatives,” said Dr Lulie in Hokkaido University’s Spring 2024 magazine.
To Dr Lulie, who is also an active Hokkaido University Ambassador in Malaysia, TROPI’s research initiatives have all been based on collaboration with Hokkaido University.
“The collaboration has made significant contributions to conferences, publications, and events worldwide,” she said. — DayakDaily
