PETALING JAYA: Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic) has revealed that more students will have an opportunity to join the matriculation programme offered by the Education Ministry in the next few years.

In a Facebook post on Thursday (Dec 21), the MCA president shared a written reply from Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek in response to questions related to the issue which he had posed in Parliament recently.

“The ministry is planning to increase the recruitment of students into the matriculation programme upon the construction of an additional building at the Kelantan Matriculation College and Kedah Engineering Matriculation College which is expected to be completed in 2025.

“In addition, the ministry is also planning the development of new colleges in Sarawak under the Fourth Rolling Plan (RP4) of the 12th Malaysia Plan,” the reply read.

Dr Wee had also asked Fadhlina about the racial percentage of total intakes into matriculation college under the ministry this year.

The ministry added that it would continue its policy of a race-based quota system for the selection of students where 90% of places are reserved for ethnic Malay and bumiputra students and 10% for other races.
