BINTULU: Police arrested two local men for cutting cables inside a manhole owned by a telecommunications company along Jalan Sultan Iskandar here, last Saturday (July 13).
Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the culprits were caught in the act around 2.10 am by the company’s security personnel, who were patrolling the area.
The security team quickly alerted the police and it led to the arrest of the suspects at the scene.
“Police also seized 16 pieces of cut cables, a chain block, a ladder and a hacksaw from them.
“Background checks showed that the suspects, who tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine, had prior records related to theft and drug abuse,” he said.
The suspects will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
Nixon pointed out that the police will continue collaborating with telecommunication companies to curb cable theft and will not comprise with any individual or group that commits such crimes.
