KUCHING, Dec 22: An elderly woman died while a hearing-impaired man (OKU) was seriously injured in a road accident involving a motorcycle and a car at Kilometre 433 of the Pan Borneo Highway, Saratok, this morning.
According to a TVS news report, Saratok District Police Chief (KPD), DSP Mathew Manggie said the incident occurred at about 7am this morning, involving a Perodua Axia car and a Honda Dash 125 motorcycle.
“The driver of the car, a 57-year-old man from Pusa, was reported not to have sustained any injuries.
“Initial investigations found that the accident occurred when the Perodua Axia driver was driving in the right lane. The motorcyclist who was in the left lane is believed to have suddenly changed lanes to the right lane,” he said in a statement today.
He said that due to the close distance, the car driver did not have time to avoid and hit the right side of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, a 69-year-old elderly man from Roban who is also a hearing impaired (OKU) card holder, suffered a broken right leg and was sent to Sarikei Hospital for further treatment.
The motorcycle passenger, a 64-year-old elderly woman, was confirmed dead while receiving treatment at Saratok Hospital at about 9.23am.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and further investigations are still underway. – DayakDaily
