PETALING JAYA:

Saifullah Minggu, a former aide to an ex-tourism, arts and culture minister, says he has contacted the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and is ready to cooperate with the agency.

Saifullah said he reached out to MACC officer Fadzli Alias for clarification following reports that the anti-graft agency was looking for him to assist in an investigation.

“I was informed that the matter only concerns my attendance in court for proceedings scheduled next week,” Utusan Borneo quoted him as saying in a statement yesterday.

On Monday, MACC issued a statement saying it was looking for Saifullah to assist in an ongoing probe.

Saifullah, 35, was sentenced to six years’ jail and fined RM8.8 million on Nov 20 last year after the Kuala Lumpur sessions court found him guilty of accepting RM1.765 million in bribes from December 2018 to March 2019.

The court allowed him a stay of execution pending an appeal at the High Court.
